The elegant small town of Fowey climbs in pretty paths through tall white balconied buildings, down to the Fowey estuary, where ferries and fishing boats, kayaks and sailing dinghies potter busily across the blue waters of the river estuary to the little village of Polruan.

The Fowey estuary is a natural deep water harbour, and perfect for yachts. Visit during the third week in August and you'll be able to enjoy the fabulous Fowey Royal Regatta - a full programme of races (including Fowey's own sailing boat class - the Troy), a carnival, crab catching contests, the Giant Pasty ceremony, fireworks at night and live music.
The Regatta isn't Fowey's only festival. The novelist Daphne du Maurier (Rebecca, Jamaica Inn etc) lived in Fowey and the Du Maurier Festival Society holds a week long arts and music festival in her name every May. There is also a small exhibition about her at the town's Literary Centre.

Most of the buildings in Fowey itself are at least Georgian, with quite a that are rather older. The streets are narrow and filled with interesting independent shops and small restaurants. It's a wonderful place to wander around.

But you can't really appreciate just how beautiful this part of the world is if you stay on land. Why not take a boat trip, or even hire a canoe? In Spring and Summer, there is a regular passenger ferry service to Mevagissey, and this is really the best way to visit that town. You might even spot dolphins or basking sharks on the way.
One of the most impressive family hotels in Cornwall, Fowey Hall enjoys spectacular views over the picturesque sailing town of Fowey and the sea beyond. A truly special place to relax and enjoy memorable times with your family.
